Heuchera micrantha  Common Name: Crevice Alum Root Images

Small, shade loving plant. Found mostly in California coastal hills and Sierra foothills.  Typically grows on rocky slopes.   Perfect for under trees. Many flower spikes of small flowers.  Slightly smaller that H. maxima with usually pink flowers - can be combined in plantings.  Plant in clumps. Needs summer irrigation.

lnative to the Channel Island along the Coast of California, Large leaves. Flowering in 1-2' spikes in Spring.  Nice as a high ground cover in massed plantings or as an accent under Oaks.  Flowers attract hummingbirds. Needs summer irrigation.

Pure, beautiful white flowers.  Flowers in spring.  Less prolific than cultivated Iris but worth waiting for.  Semi-Drought tolerant.  Can use summer irrigation and be incorporated into non-native gardens. Can take irrigation after established.  Usually flowers at Easter and is a great Easter flower option.

Small gray/green shrub with light purple flowers. A subshrub in the Lamiaceae (Mint) family. Flowers in summer.  Nice surprise when other natives are going dormant to have this one flower.  Used as a tea by native Indians for respiratory or stomach upset.   Supposed to taste like mint and has been used for sore throats.  Fragrant if rubbed or disturbed. Dormant in early summer and will sprout from base in Fall/Winter.

Member if the Iris family.  Blue flowers.  Long blooming period and very adaptable to different conditions.  Delicate narrow leaves. Very nice accent plant between larger perennials or in a small native area. Drought tolerant but can tolerate some garden moisture.

Nice surprise.  Small flowering plant that will flower Spring into winter with moisture.  Looks to be very frost tolerant - kept blooming when other plants flowers has froze.  Native to the Mojave Desert.  Can be short lived but will easliy reseed and spread - although no aggressively.
